Mission:
Leslie’s List was established in March 2009 as an independent information-gathering resource for patients and prescribers. Our mission is to provide information that enables all patients, but especially the uninsured and underinsured, to find more affordable medications and healthcare services.
Founders:
Leslie Ramirez, MD, a practicing internal medicine doctor in Chicago, Illinois.
Jeff Bailey, journalist
Funding:
Self- funded by the founders
Methods:
All the medication, vaccine, and diabetic testing supply price comparisons are reported in dollars, and are rounded up or down using conventional methodology. The price information is for Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area pharmacies only.
LesliesList.org uses the internet to obtain the prices whenever possible but when these are not available LesliesList.org calls or visits the pharmacy directly and asks the pharmacy staff for the price.
For diagnostic testing prices- none of these prices is available on the internet. LesliesList.org staff called each radiology center listed here and asked for the price of each test.
Caveats:
Be aware that the prices quoted here may be in error for a multitude of reasons, including: erroneous information given by pharmacy or testing center staff, improper recording of the information by LesliesList.org staff, improper entering of the data into the database, and price changes by the pharmacy or testing site since our last posting date. There are probably more potential errors that we haven’t even thought of yet. PLEASE CALL THE PHARMACY AND/OR TESTING SITE TO CONFIRM ANY PRICE YOU SEE!
Codes:
RR- Reader Reported Medicine Price. This means LesliesList.org users actually sent us the price- we always appreciate that!
Pill Can Be Split. This pill can be safely split in half and therefore you might save money on your medicine by purchasing the higher dose and cutting it in half.
SA- Staff Administered. This applies to vaccines (such as influenza, shingles, etc). This means that you can purchase the vaccine at the pharmacy and they will administer it to you there at the pharmacy.
